Friends to Grow Up With.....

Today is a sad, sad day....We have some friends--some great friends--that came for a visit on Friday and left today. They come for a visit once every three months or so, and it gets harder and harder for our two girls to leave each other on Sunday.

Those two girls are two peas in a pod, girls cut from the same cloth, friends forever.

Today, after some fun in the sun and a five more minutes reminder, my daughter's BFF was stashed here...

in the laundry sorter.

But, as with all good things, even the hiding came to an end....We miss you guys already! Come back soon!

What Can We Do?

Since school is almost out, I'm planning our summer activities....library, park, vacation Bible school, a camp or two. However, yesterday, which was technically five days before school is out for the summer, my progeny spent their day asking one question over and over..."When can we watch tv?"

Oh, they're tricky. They actually asked the same thing several different ways. "Can we watch it now?" "Have I earned watching a movie?" "Can we watch this movie?" "There's nothing to do but watch tv", "What else am I supposed to do besides watch tv?" "Why can't we watch it now?" and the big gun...."Pleeeeeaaaaaase?????"

Watching television is the bane of my existence. More on that in another post. However, I did hold out, and we didn't watch that movie that I had promised until right before bed. So what do you think happened today?

I guess it's true what they say. Necessity is the mother of invention.

Totally kid invented.

Totally kid assembled.

They've got their fair share of their daddy's genes.

Not once did they ask that ugly old question.

Recipe for Our Saturday Memory

1 rather large canopy tent
1 wagon
3 fold-up chairs
1 tarp
1 blanket
1 bag of things to do
1 bag of dry clothes
3 covered cups of orange juice
1 bag of breakfast food from McDonald's
3 lovely children
generous servings of heat and sunshine
a sprinkle of wind
a pinch of childhood frustration over any old thing (getting hair fixed, spilling
juice, etc.)

Early on Saturday morning, load all ingredients into your mixer or minivan, whichever will accomodate. Drop off the swimmer child, the blanket and the tarp at the designated spot to sign in while you park the van at least a mile away (no cheating, here!). Load all ingredients minus two children, the tarp and the blanket onto the wagon and walk the mile or more (remember, no cheating!) back to the pool. Have one extra helpful six year old help look for cars, carry the food and help boost the wagon up and down over the curbs where needed. Combine all ingredients under the canopy.

When all racing is finished for the swimmer, load up all ingredients and walk back to the mixer or minivan. Top with four juicy, red or purple snow cones on the way home--of course, one for each child and one for the mom. Don't worry about spills. You won't remember that part tomorrow.
